An Aston convertible with a V12 engine: what more could you ask for?

- Lancée en 1993, la DB7 s'inscrit comme le modèle ayant littéralement sauvé Aston Martin de la faillite. A l'origine de la renaissance d'Aston Martin dans les années 1980, Victor Gauntlett avait compris que pour assurer la survie de l'entreprise et la livraison de nouveaux modèles, la compagnie avait besoin d'un modèle moderne, fonctionnel, et surtout plus facile à produire que les couteuses V8.
- C'est ainsi que le projet fut lancé à partir de 1990 et rendu possible grâce à l'arrivée du géant Ford dans le capital de la firme anglaise. La conception et le développement technolo¬gique sont confiés au groupe TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing), dont l'engagement officiel des Jaguar XJR en championnat du monde des sports-prototype est alors auréolé de succès. Enfin, en mars 1993, la DB7 est présentée au salon de Genève.
- Il faut cependant attendre 1999 pour assister à la sortie d'une version hautes per-formances : la DB7 Vantage qui devient du même coup la première Aston Martin à recevoir un moteur V12. Celui-ci dispose d’une cylindrée de 6 litres et développe 420 ch.
- Après le lancement de la V12 Vantage, les ventes de la DB7 6 cylindres déclinèrent et la production s’arrêta mi 1999.À la fin de 2002, la production totale de la DB7 V12 Vantage s’établissait à 4 431 exemplaires, soit plus de la moitié des ventes totales de DB7.
- L’exemplaire que nous proposons, de couleur Antrim Blue avec intérieur Pacific Blue, fut importé en France et immatriculé par Auto Performance – Aston Martin Paris à la fin de l’année 2023, alors qu’il totalisait 22 000 km. Il a depuis eu 2 propriétaires, l’actuel s’en portant acquéreur en 2020. La voiture, affichant aujourd’hui environ 120 000 km et présentant un contrôle technique quasi vierge, roule parfaitement, et nécessitera quelques soins cosmétiques (bouclier avant notamment) pour combler les amateurs les plus exigeants.

- Launched in 1993, the DB7 was the model that literally saved Aston Martin from bankruptcy. Victor Gauntlett, who was behind Aston Martin's revival in the 1980s, understood that in order to ensure the company's survival and the delivery of new models, the company needed a modern, functional model that was, above all, easier to produce than the costly V8s.

- The project was launched in 1990 and made possible by the arrival of the giant Ford as a shareholder in the British firm. The design and technological development were entrusted to the TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) group, whose official involvement with the Jaguar XJR in the World Sportscar Championship was then crowned with success. Finally, in March 1993, the DB7 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

- However, it was not until 1999 that a high-performance version was released: the DB7 Vantage, which also became the first Aston Martin to feature a V12 engine. This had a displacement of 6 litres and developed 420 hp.

- After the launch of the V12 Vantage, sales of the 6-cylinder DB7 declined and production ceased in mid-1999. By the end of 2002, total production of the DB7 V12 Vantage stood at 4,431 units, accounting for more than half of total DB7 sales.

- The example we are offering, in Antrim Blue with a Pacific Blue interior, was imported into France and registered by Auto Performance – Aston Martin Paris at the end of 2023, when it had 22,000 km on the clock. It has since had two owners, with the current owner purchasing it in 2020. The car, which now has around 120,000 km on the clock and has passed its MOT with flying colours, runs perfectly and will require some cosmetic work (particularly to the front bumper) to satisfy the most demanding enthusiasts.
