- En 1979, l’armée américaine lance un appel d’offres pour un nouveau véhicule tout terrain, comme elle l’avait fait au début de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale pour la Jeep. Nom de code ? High Mobility Multiurpose Wheeled Vehicle, ou HMMWV (phonétiquement humvee).
- C’est la Metal Fabricating Division de AM General qui remporte le contrat, et la construction du plus célèbre et démesuré des 4x4 blindés militaires débute en 1984.
- La production est initialement exclusivement militaire, et il se dit que c’est Arnold Schwarzenegger qui a demandé à la direction d’AM General d’élaborer une version civile. C’est lui qui prendra d’ailleurs livraison des deux premiers exemplaires, baptisés Hummer, en 1992.
- En 2000, au Salon de Detroit, la General Motors Corp., qui a racheté les droits à AM General, présente le Hummer H2 SUV Concept, qui entre en production début 2002. Authentique baroudeur qui passe là où les autres ne passent pas (« Un tiers de la terre vous attend », vante la brochure), ce 4x4 XXL, motorisé par le V8 Vortec de 6 l et 316 ch (puis 325 ch à partir de 2004) soigne ses occupants avec sièges électriques en cuir, sono Bose ou climatisation 3-zones. Un Hummer H2 neuf coutait en France plus de 80 000 €, hors options.
- Le Hummer H2 présenté ici, équipé du moteur 6 l de 325 ch, bénéficia d’un entretien suivi (factures disponibles) et affiche aujourd’hui un peu plus de 111 000 km. Aux mains de l’actuel propriétaire depuis un peu plus de 10 ans, il est en bel état esthétique et présente un équipement complet et fonctionnel, le rendant prêt à affronter les trottoirs comme la boue !

- AM General's Metal Fabricating Division won the contract, and construction of the most famous and oversized military armoured 4x4 began in 1984.
- Production was initially exclusively military, and it is said that it was Arnold Schwarzenegger who asked AM General's management to develop a civilian version. He was the one who took delivery of the first two models, christened Hummer, in 1992.
- In 2000, at the Detroit Motor Show, General Motors Corp., which had bought the rights from AM General, presented the Hummer H2 SUV Concept, which went into production in early 2002. A true adventurer that goes where others cannot (‘A third of the earth awaits you’, boasts the brochure), this XXL 4x4, powered by a 6-litre Vortec V8 engine with 316 hp (then 325 hp from 2004 onwards), pampers its occupants with electric leather seats, a Bose sound system and 3-zone air conditioning. A new Hummer H2 cost more than €80,000 in France, excluding options.
- The Hummer H2 presented here, equipped with a 6-litre 325 hp engine, has been regularly serviced (invoices available) and currently has just over 111,000 km on the clock. Owned by its current owner for just over 10 years, it is in good cosmetic condition and comes with a full range of functional equipment, making it ready to tackle kerbs and mud alike!
